For those who believe we have something to envy to our neighbors of the South, think again! Canada has more beautiful beaches than any other. White sand, turquoise sea, pleasant temperature that gives you a boost of energy, security for your family … I would like to introduce you to some heartfelt memories of the southwestern part of Nova Scotia. Of course, pictures below won’t do justice to the real beauty of these beaches.
Crystal Crescent Beach Provincial Park
Located in the southwestern part of Nova Scotia, Crystal Crescent Beach is about 30 minutes drive from downtown Halifax. If you spend a few days in the region, I assure you that you will not regret the detour. There are three (3) crescent-shaped white sand beaches. A beautiful hiking trail (20 km round trip) allows you to combine the hike to the pleasure of swimming.
I have been there many times and the place is just breathtaking. I advise you to get the traffic information correctly and bring food and beverages with you. People often bring their dogs there and you will see many families. If you like simplicity and beaches without superficiality, this is a great place to rest and to enjoy the sun!
Carter’s Beach, Port Mouton
Getting There: Carters Beach Rd, Port Mouton, NS B0T 1T0 (Approximately 20 km from Liverpool)
Located in Queens County, this beach is the most turquoise I’ve seen so far and it’s downright spectacular! I would say it is a little less known than other beaches and you will meet many local people. This beach consists of three crescents of moon one after the other. The sand looks like white powder and maybe you’ll see some seals a short distance to the beach. Do not hesitate to talk with the locals who will recommend you the best places to enjoy sea delicacies at the end of your day.
Summerville Beach Provincial Park
I recommend this white sand beach for its tranquility and the pleasure of walking there all day. At low tide, this beach is really wide and the waves fairly constant. Me and my partner went back regularly to walk in the late afternoon while enjoying a nice bottle of wine … from Nova Scotia of course!

Martinique Beach Provincial Park
Located 11 km south of Musquodoboit, this 5 km white sand beach is the longest in Nova Scotia. From Halifax, you can calculate 50 minutes driving on an almost deserted road at times. You can sit comfortably near a sand dune all day, walk, swim, learn to surf, practice yoga, etc. Some places to change your clothes are available but take care to bring with you enough food and water … you will be surprised to have walked 20km at the end of the day … without even realizing it! So nice!

Hirtle Beach, Lunenberg region
Just over 3 km long, this Kingsburgh’s beach is a continuously moving beach with lush green cliffs! This white sand beach is also bordered with pebbles washed by the sea. During the tides, it seems like the beach plays a melody as the water rises through the pebbles. For many people who have visited Nova Scotia, this beach is heaven on earth!
